World Cafe© - World tour of cultural differences
Overview
Cross the borders ! And have a coffee on each continent to experience the cultural differences. Each team represents a country with its specific customs and identity and has to build an original coffee shop. Customers from all over the world will visit these new businesses and sample the originality of their products and services.
Activity
Divided into teams, participants will receive information on the country they are representing, a basic toolkit and a sum of money so that they can purchase resources. Based on the information supplied, they must build a coffee shop selling specific national products and provide an entertainment programme for their future customers. The teams can buy or negotiate resources at purchasing centres. Each participant will have the opportunity to be a customer at another cafe and experience another culture.
1 - Kick-off
The programme opens with a little presentation to get the participants in the spirit. We then give out the necessary information for a quick start.
2 - The country's identity
During this stage, the teams brainstorm their knowledge about the country aided by the information provided.
3 - The concept
Now it's time to get creative ! The participants must agree on how to use the materials provided and divide the tasks.
4 - The resources
For their concept to be become reality, the participants will need additional resources which they can buy at the purchasing centre or from other suppliers.
5 - Constructing the coffee shop
Putting words into action! Lets build it !
6 - Visiting the other shops
Now the teams can have fun trying out the other coffee shops. By travelling through the various concepts, everybody will have the chance to visit cafes in India, Russia, Egypt, Brazil or Germany etc.
7 - Finale
The teams award each other points to establish which cafe has made the greatest impact on its customers. Other special prizes, such as ' most popular personality', 'best entertainment' ... are awarded.
